(01) The brief
The family wanted a formal majlis that could seat twenty guests yet still feel warm on quiet evenings. We built a modular U-majlis to the exact length of each wall, upholstered in sand performance velvet that resists coffee and fingerprints, and framed the tall windows with full-height olive velvet drapes on blackout lining. Tone-on-tone jacquard cushions and bolsters complete the room.

Olive velvet, five metres tall
Each drape is cut from a single drop of velvet so the pile runs unbroken from ceiling to floor, then gathered into a brass tieback by day.
